Supercar Challenge – Spa-Francorchamps 2024 – Race report

Quali

In wet conditions, the qualifying session began, and the quest for an optimal setup continued. It was a challenging session for the non-drive-assisted vehicles (no ABS, traction control, etc.), but significant progress was made during the 45-minute session to ensure a strong start for the race.

Qualifying Results:

  • Nagy Kabaz: P12 overall – P1 in class
  • Patrick Engelen: P13 overall – P2 in class

Race 1

In wet but drying conditions, the team opted for different strategies for each car. Nagy Kabaz started on rain tires and had an excellent start, quickly gaining several positions. The Senegalese driver showed confidence in the rain.

Patrick Engelen, starting on slicks, faced very challenging initial laps. He skillfully managed the tricky conditions and soon benefitted as the track began to favor those on slicks.

As the pit window opened, Nagy Kabaz was one of the first to enter the pit lane to switch from rain tires to slicks. His lap times began to improve steadily on the drying track. A few minutes later, Patrick Engelen made his mandatory pit stop. When both cars rejoined the race, they were repositioned just behind each other. This was the start of an exciting battle between the two DOMEC cars with several overtakes. After a full course yellow, Nagy accelerated away and created a gap from Patrick, with both drivers securing a safe finish

Race 2

In very slippery conditions, all cars started safely on rain tires. Nagy continued his strong performance from the previous day, steadily climbing up the positions. With the SR3’s limited power compared to the higher-placed cars, Patrick fought his way up among the TCRs and BMWs. The pit stop teamwork was efficient, and both cars switched to slicks despite the slippery track. These conditions caused three cars to spin into the gravel traps, resulting in a full course yellow and a red flag. At that point, our cars were positioned P4 overall (P1 in class) and P5 overall (P2 in class). After the race restarted for 12 minutes + 1 lap, the RXC Spyder finished 5th overall and P1 in class. Our SR3 was involved in a minor incident and, after a quick pit stop, Patrick finished P12 overall and P3 in class.
